After a day of driving the road rage filled streets of New Jersey, dealing with demanding bosses, and trying to keep a smile on your face throughout it all, it’s hard to avoid neck pain. When you’re tense, your muscles aren’t able to do their jobs properly with as much flexibility as they’re used to. This can cause soreness and pain in your neck.
When you add poor posture into the mix, the chances of you not suffering from neck pain become less and less. But, in NJ, neck pain relief is a dream, a perk, a benefit for the rich – who have the time to go visit a chiropractor or other spine specialist, right? Not necessarily. And, in most cases, you don’t need surgery. So stop worrying so much. (Unless you’ve had severe chronic pain for over 3 months now – in that case, visit a doctor right away.)
The good news – you can experience NJ neck pain relief right in your own home. There are some things you can do everyday to make your neck healthier. First, as hard as this will be (especially if you’re a gym enthusiast or sports player), temporarily stop lifting heavy things and playing sports. It will help you in the long run. Once your neck is in better shape, you’ll be able to be more effective in those activities. If you continue as you are now, your pain and stiffness will just continue to get worse – and you’ll eventually have to stop anyway. And, in that case, recovery will take even longer.
Pay a visit to a sports massage therapist or a physical therapist (just one time) to learn some specific exercises and stretches that can help your neck condition and relieve you of your neck pain. In addition to offering pain relief, stretching and exercising your neck strengthens your neck muscles. So, in the future, they’ll be able to deal with the daily grind better and not hurt in the first place. You can also find stretches and exercises online and watch demonstration videos of them on YouTube. While it’s better to have a professional tell you which ones are best for your neck condition, if you truly have no time, you can certainly make due with the ones you find online.
If you sit for a long time at a computer with bad posture, focus on improving your posture. Also consider giving a standing desk a try or just moving your screen so it’s at eye level. If you’re using a laptop, you can buy a USB keyboard to allow you to do this.
And, gently massage the painful part of your neck (or even better, have someone else do it – you have a good excuse now) to loosen the muscles and help them heal.
There you have it. Even in NJ, neck pain relief is possible. Just be consistent and give your neck a few minutes a day – show it you care. If you do, it will make your life a lot easier, and more pain-free, in the long run.
